Widows lives’ matter is a food donation Programme, where every month our organization Provides 100 Groceries i.e ration kits to the families of destitute widows in the slum of Mumbai named Nirankari Nagar in Govandi. There are about 34 million widows in India which makes about 9% of the total Population, however this are the groups which are ignored by the government & other organisations.

During the lockdown in this area of Govandi we figured out that these widows were far behind in their lives & were struggling to meet their needs which made them work as maids, rag pickers & beggars, seeing this we were in a situation of pity ourselves as the place they live in is toxic place & gas chambers surrounded by a dumping ground & bio-medical waste plant, 70% of these widows are rag pickers who earn by collecting the waste from dumping ground, Many of these women were infected by diseases which they were unaware about which caught them because of this hazardous waste, during lockdown one lady died after getting infected with Tuberculosis a rag picker herself, when we asked them what is the reason behind this & why do you take this risks, they answered simply we are old, we don’t get jobs in factories or home we have kids at home to take care of and our own needs, we are already dead we only do this to sustain our basic need of food. That’s when we decided to provide them with ration kits till we run our organization and that’s when Project Widows lives matter started we have been doing this monthly drive from last two years and your support & love shall take this to eternity, our one ration kit that suffice the family of widows costs us 1200 Rs only, which includes Basic Dal, Rice, wheat, sugar, Salt, Tea, Masalas, oil, soaps & other essentials, We purchase them, pack it perfectly & distribute to them at our centers every 5th of the month, we have also initiated small sustainable development projects which shall be implemented for this widows in coming years.

Since the Lockdown till today, our Ngo has provided one million cooked meals to the homeless & migrant workers living in Slums. Project Nivala aims to provide food for all & its inspired by Mid-day meal program and caters to nutritious foods for kids & needy ones.The cooked meals are made in live kitchen that provides meals everyday to the kids of wage workers.
